The Cost of Premium Cataract Surgery

The adage “you get what you pay for” fails in medicine.  Patients should be wary of surgeons charging thousands more for Premium Cataract Surgery.  The naive will assume higher cost correlates with superior performance.  This is simply false.  The peer-reviewed ophthalmic literature has demonstrated time and time again an equivalence in surgical results between the well-trained resident physician and the seasoned cataract specialist.  Practices hoping the high price tag will attract the discerning patient are being disingenuous.

A better guide to excellence is the patient-physician interaction.  A top Premium Cataract Surgeon will fully evaluate your visual needs and your ophthalmic status.  He or she will weigh an array of factors and recommend the best surgical strategy.  Intuition will guide you to the appropriate doctor in a way price can not.

Beware, also, the low cost provider of Premium Cataract Surgery.  Their price usually excludes post-operative LASIK and PRK.  These surgeons expect additional payments to address residual astigmatism and other refractive errors needed to achieve optimal results.

Active participation in your cataract consultation will being you years of outstanding vision.
